Birth of the Dragon and the Car Business

Birth of the Dragon and what I learned from Bruce Lee’s principles and how it relates to the Car Business.

Attention – He had a knack for getting attention. His goal was to bring light to his style of fighting and made sure when people thought of martial arts they would bring his name up. In the Car Business, you must be everywhere and must be the person or dealer everyone thinks of first when they are ready to buy or service their vehicle.

No Fear – He had to have this ability to navigate those tough decisions when his contemporaries didn’t agree with his philosophy. In the Car Business when selling vehicles, you must have no fear. You must have the ability to ask the questions the customers may be thinking but aren’t willing to tell you. I’ve sold more cars by asking 1 simple question, “Why don’t you want to buy this car today.” You’ll be surprised how simple yet hard it is to ask, because we’ve been brain washed “not to be pushy” and a question like that can be uncomfortable not only for yourself, but for your customer because they feel vulnerable for 4 reasons:

1.     They may not be able to afford the payment

2.     Don’t have the best Credit

3.     May not be the decision maker

4.     Or they may simply not like the car you recommend and don’t want to hurt your feelings

Be like water – “You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.” When I really look at this quote I’m reminded by the quote by Jon Kabat-Zinn “You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn how to surf.” In the Car Business, you must learn how to mirror your customers like a chameleon, I wrote about it in my books and a recent article you can read here https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/salesmanship-chameleon-chris-martinez   This fighting style allowed him to dominate his opponents and accelerate him to the next level. This is vital in selling and a way to build lasting customers and referrals in relationship selling.

The Birth of the Dragon was a great movie and when you apply these principles to the Car Business it will help you become the Dragon 🙂
